Philadelphia Bike to Work Day 2015 –

It was an overcast morning last Friday, but that didn’t stop plenty of cyclists (and us!) from showing up at Clark Park early in the morning to celebrate Bike to Work Day this year. Riders crowded around the “Energizing Station” and chatted about their rides, commutes, and being a cyclist in Philly over free coffee and snacks.

Organized by the The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia alongside the city and tons of volunteers, this year again saw the largest participation of any Bike to Work Day yet in Philadelphia. The large group of commuters experienced a leisurely, enjoyable ride from West Philly to Love Park as friendly PPD Officers cycled with us to help stop traffic and make sure everyone participating in this year’s ride was safe. An overall successful and fun event to promote cycling in the city, all the riders were all smiles as we rode through the city.

Once the ride arrived at Love Park’s energizing station, the cycling crowd swelled to hundreds as everyone chatted and enjoyed more freebies and snacks handed out by volunteers. Speeches from The Coalition’s Executive Director Alex Doty, Philly Schools Superintendent Dr. William Hite and Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources Mike DiBerardinis all gave brief speeches about how far the cycling community has come in Philadelphia, how it continues to grow, the burgeoning success of the Indego Bike Share program, and what it means to be a cyclist in one of the biggest commuter cities in the country.

Check out some photos from the event below, with a special thanks to The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, all of the volunteers, all of the participants, and sponsorship from Capital One, Indego Bike Share, AAA Mid Atlantic, Peet’s Coffee and Kind Bars, and Yards Brewing Co.
